My name is Heikki Nurkkala. I am the author of this site. I am passionate luthier and hand tool enthusiast. I am trained as a cabinet maker but currently working as a designer and photographer in the advertising business. I build guitars with hand tools and love doing it. I also play classical guitar.

This site is born from my love of using hand tools and making things by hand. My mission with this site is to spread out and educate the art and skills of using traditional hand tools in woodworking. I’ll write informative articles about the things that I find important and useful when learning to use hand tools. I don’t hate machines, I use them when I have to, but I love working in a quiet workshop without irritating dust masks and hearing protection. And I see that shaping the world with beautiful, well working, functional hand tools is what a man is created for.

Article (In Finnish) about me in KauppaSuomi-magazine

“HE who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
